The UK National Focal Centre (UK NFC) for critical loads mapping and modelling is based at CEH Bangor.
The UK NFC is responsible for:
- Co-ordinating the critical loads mapping and dynamic modelling activities in the UK
- Compiling national data sets and maps
- Submitting UK critical loads and dynamic model outputs to the Coordination Centre for Effects (CCE) for use by the Working Group on Effects of the UNECE Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP)
- Representing the UK at annual meetings of CLRTAP International Cooperative Programme on Mapping and Modelling and at CCE annual workshops.
Information on the UK data submissions can be found in the CCE Status Reports. The data submitted are incorporated into the European-wide databases and maps of critical loads, and used in conjunction with modelled deposition generated by the European Monitoring and Evaluation Programme (EMEP) for integrated assessment modelling to determine the potential environmental benefits of applying international pollutant abatement scenarios. Results at the European scale can be found in the CCE Status Reports.
